"So, you have a fourth grader. It's going to be a challenging year, but I know you're up for it. I'm Debbie Noah, and I'm here to give you some tips on getting ready for that first day of school for your fourth grader. As always, in every grade level, you as a parent, talking positively about school is a number one thing that can instill that love of learning and getting your kid excited about school. So, talking ahead of time, talking about what's going to happen, your schedule is going to be a little different, curriculum is going to be a little bit more challenging, but you're up for the challenge. Maybe changing classes, that may be different for them. Talk about things that may be different for them from when they were in K-one, two and three. Fourth grade ups the ante quite a bit. Be sure that you get in that night time routine early. These kids are in their summertime routine, and they're not going to be wanting to get up. So, if you practice it a week ahead of time, it's going to make your life a lot easier. Be sure you go and get supplies. Involve your child in that. They love doing that. A fourth grader is going to need a great backpack. If they like to bring their lunch to school, they need a good insulated lunch box, lots of important things like a good binder, spiral notebooks, folders, notebook paper, things like that. Fourth graders are going to have to have a really good supply of to make sure that they have a successful year. When you need to buy your supplies for your fourth grader, go to your school district's website. More than likely they have a list. You can go to your schools office, they'll have a list for you. You can go to your local stores, more than likely they have a list. However, if you want to save yourself a little stress, many PTA's at school, supply the school supplies pre-packaged. You can order them ahead of time. You don't have to go to fifty stores, and you're assured that you're fourth grader has everything they need to start school. You need; I can't emphasize enough for you to stress to your fourth grader, things are going to be a little bit harder, a little bit more challenging, but they can do it. You being positive is going to make them be positive about school. Very important. I know your fourth grader is going to have a great year and a great first day.
