"The average global temperature of our earth has increased almost one degree Fahrenheit over the last century. Scientists are predicting in the next hundred years, there may be an increase of two to six degrees Fahrenheit. Hi, I'm Debbie Noah, and I'm here to help you teach your kids about global warming. Global warming is a huge concept. And kids hear it in the news. They hear you talking about it. And sometimes it can be a little scary for young children. So let me preface this with, you don't want your kids getting all worried. A lot of kids assume worry on a lot of things. So you don't want to stress them out over it, but you do want to explain to them what it is and what the repercussions may be for our earth. Global warming is a gradual increase of temperature over time. And a good way to explain that to young children is talk about your teeth. If you didn't brush your teeth for one or two days, probably nothing bad's going to happen. But if you didn't brush your teeth for a month, could be you're going to have some major cavities. Same thing with global warming. If the temperature increases a little bit for a few days on our earth, no big deal. But if it continues to increase over time, then it certainly is a big deal. And what kinds of things are going to happen? Kids are going to ask you that. Now, again, you don't want to be the voice of doom and scare them, but you do want to talk about the possibilities of what could happen. Rainfall patterns are going to change. There's going to be...the...the ice caps are going to start melting, which is going to cause a rise in the ocean. When that happens, there could be flooding. It's going to affect plants, and animals and humans all over the world. So, how can we help that? Lots of things that we've already talked about on conserving energy and conservation. Now scientists do also believe the major number one cause of global warming is cars and the emissions that they are producing, which is causing terrible effect on our air quality and global warming. So, as we talked about, teach your kids about car pooling. Walking, and riding a bike instead of driving. Other things that we can talk about...conserving energy again. Turning the lights off, turning the shower and the faucet off. All those things can eventually end up increasing our temperatures on our earth. So, it's very important that they understand it. We don't want to scare 'em, but we do want 'em to know that they have the power to do something about it. I'm Debbie Noah, and that's one good way to teach your kids about global warming."
