"Hi, my name is Mike Sanders, and I'm going to help you determine whether you're a regular foot or a goofy foot. Goofy foot is having your left foot on the back of the board and having your right foot in front. Regular foot is just the opposite, right foot on the back left foot in the front. When you're surfing a wave breaking to the right and you're regular foot, you're going to be facing the wave, so it's a lot more comfortable for a lot of people to be facing the wave. So, there's a few ways to determine if you regular foot or goofy foot. The best way, that I've found, is to have a friend come up behind you when you're not expecting it and give you a good shove. Because, usually, you fall forward with your back foot, and that's the foot you're going to be in most control with. That's the foot that you're going to pivot your weight on, that's the foot you're going to be turning off of. Ah, some people can go either way and, if it, in that boat of people I would say, you know, pick the spot you want to surf and face the wave. I grew up goofy foot skateboarding and that was comfortable for me, but when it came to surfing I was learning it along right point break, and I found it best to switch myself around and have the wave face me. But then again, if you're way more comfortable being, you know, with your back to the wave and you feel comfortable, it's really up to you. Ah, it doesn't really matter which way you are there's tons of goofy foot people, there's tons of regular foot people and all over the world there's lefts and rights, so it really comes down, it's up to you what you feel more comfortable with. That's pretty much how to decide whether you're a regular or a goofy foot."
