"Let's talk about choosing dog treats. There are lots of dog treats on the market and not all are made alike. There are lots of them that have filler, and lots of preservatives, lots of salt, and so these can cause weight gain. Lots of problems associated with that, especially if they're getting many treats per day. And so choose treats wisely. You want to use a good quality treat. There are some treats that actually are vitamin fortified which can work very well also. Essentially for lots of patients and lots of pets, a low fat type of treat is going to work a lot better. There are treats that have higher fiber low fat these days. They are much easier to give. Frankly dogs don't really care either way as long as they're getting a treat they're happy. But just don't get anything that looks like it has a lot of dyes or preservatives in it or that could cause weight gain."
