"My name's Seann McWhorter. I'm agency principal of Insure Right Insurance Agency located in Lehi, Utah. We're here to talk about insurance ins and outs, and specifically how to buy temporary health insurance. Many people find themselves in a transition period where they are no longer employed at a company that offers health insurance, and there's going to be a short period of time where they will--before they can qualify to get insurance at their next employer. So in that situation, they can purchase a temporary health insurance policy. How do you obtain this? You would contact an insurance agent that specializes or offers health insurance, and ask them out that. They will take a short application about your medical back history, and submit that to the carrier for underwriting approval. Generally speaking, underwriting takes about a week to two weeks to determine whether you're eligible for a policy. Once that is determined, then you're given the opportunity to accept or decline that offer of coverage from the insurance company."
