"Buying a crib is one of the biggest purchases you're going to make when having a baby. Cribs cost anywhere from about a hundred dollars to a thousand, so it's easy to get carried away. So doing your research is a must before you buy one. So I would start shopping a few months before baby arrives. I'm Joie with Baby Earth and we're going to talk about buying a crib. Now safety comes first when we're talking about your baby sleeping. Especially because you're going to be sleeping and you're not going to be right there in the crib with your baby. So let's talk about safety. Number one, the slats on the crib, you want these to be no more than two and three eighths of an inch wide. You don't want baby's head or arm or anything to be able to easily get caught in here. Now also you want to make sure that you can take baby in and out of the crib easy. So normally on most cribs at least one side goes down. This one pushes down just like that. Now a baby's not going to be able to figure that out. So make sure the way the railing comes down is not something baby can see you do and do themselves. So this is good for taking baby out, you have the baby, clicks into place, it locks, nothings going to happen. Another thing is think about where in the room you're going to place the crib. You want to make sure that you get the right size, something that fits, and try to keep it away from blinds or windows or anything that baby when they get a little older can climb up and pull on the blinds because that just causes another hazard. It's not very safe to have a little blind thing hanging there. Another thing to keep in mind with cribs is it's nice to have one with wheels on it so you can pull the crib out, vacuum underneath it, push it back. Make sure it's something that if it does have wheels that the wheels do lock and it's a crib that you're able to easily move and clean around. Another thing that you're going to want to think about is having a mattress that has two or three different height positions because as baby grows, you need to adjust the height. So make sure that you know how to work it, you can safely do it and that the mattress fits properly. Well, that's all I have to say about cribs. I hope you learned a little bit. I'm Joie with Baby Earth."
