"Hi my name is Floyd Kunz, I'm talking to you today, from the Acoustic Musician dot com, in Sandy, Utah. And we are here today to talk about how to store an Electric Guitar. There are several ways, there are big bags which are a soft sided bag, which people like for convenience. Myself, I prefer a hard case, such as what we've got right here. It has more support for the instrument, keeps humidity issues at bay,and there is more protection, you know if your dog decides to jump off the couch, which I did, I had a dog break a neck on a guitar. But probably the most important thing I want to cover is storage above and beyond just the cases. Probably one of the biggest myths that people have when they store an instrument is, well I need to take all the strings off it to store it, and so the problem is if you, the neck is kept straight by the tension of the strings, if you remove the strings, and you store that instrument for any length of time, the neck wants to turn back into a tree, and have you ever seen a tree that grows straight ? And so the best thing to do is to store it at pitch. You know, they recommend that if you travel, to maybe down tune it a half a step, but either way, store it at pitch with tension on that neck and your neck will stay straight and when you get around to playing it again, it will work for you."
