"Hi I'm Tony Naile and today I'm going to talk to you about setting up a proper stance in the batter's box. First of all we like to set up in the center of the plate to begin with, usually a shoe size from the plate and the way we measure this is stick to the toe to the edge of the plate, kick your heel and step straight back. That gives a standard set up, not a closed or open stance but a straight stance. You want to set up, by doing this you can come to the outside corner of the plate with a sweet swat of the bat, right here with proper distance from the plate. This is all a preference of the hitter, of course it can change. You want to set up with your knees, your feet just a little wider than your shoulders, a good balanced position, knees bent a little bit where you are comfortable. Never lock your knees, but a little bend here. You want a good balance. You always want to keep a good athletic body under you. Athletic body meaning you can make any kind of move from there. You don't want to be too far weight on the front or too far weight on the back, just a good set up, a good balance here and a good body posture. Start your hands up above them. I like mine at the top of the strike zone, again your bottom hand at the top of the strike zone. This way I know exactly where my hands are and where my bat needs to go. So if I've got to raise my hands up to go to a pitch, I've just gone to a bad pitch so in this area it tells me where my hands are at all times and where the top of the strike zone is. That's about it today on the hitting stance. Thank you."
