"Hi my name is Jamie Cevellas otherwise known as the swing mechanic. Today I'm going to be discussing fielding and more specifically the fielding percentage statistic. It's really the only statistic that is common amongst defensive players. And the way that you calculate the fielding percentage is your assist plus your put outs. Now what's an assist? Assist is you can pick up as the beginning of an out being made. So it's the shortstop fielding the ball. What's the put out? It's the first basement catching the ball, so it's the end of the out ok. Now to calculate the fielding percentage you simply divide that by your total chances which is your assist plus your put outs plus your errors. Ok. So that is going to give you your fielding percentage. The best time to use your fielding percentage for me when I have coached is using for my middle end fielders, it's very important to know what they are doing from day to day. That is very telling of how your defense is doing. Also your center fielder, your first baseman, those are some key positions that you really want to use fielding percentages statistic. My name is Jamie Cevallas and we just covered fielding percentage."
