"Hi, my name is Lincoln Ward. I'm a USPTA Certified Tennis Pro here in Austin, Texas, with Lonestar Tennis Company. Today, we're going to talk about how to hit a four hand volley, in tennis. The first thing you have to do to hit a volley, is think about your grip. You want to hold a continental grip, anytime you hit a volley. The next thing you need to do, is your setup and preparation. You want to stand about, feet shoulder length apart, with your racket well up above your face. The racket handle should be right along your chin. Now, for those of you guys who are not really sure what your volley is. Sometimes on TV, you'll see your players hitting from way back to the baseline, grunting and slugging the ball, and sometimes, they run real close to the net, and just block the ball. That's what a volley is. That's the quickest and easiest way to win a point, and generally the first strokes we teach in tennis, so when you're up there at the net, your racket is up here at your chin. Your feet are shoulder length apart, and when the ball is coming, you're not going to let the ball bounce. You're going to hold your racquet out here in front of your face, like it's a stop sign, and you're just going to block the ball. There's no need to swing, and your volley. All you want to do is block the ball. You're going to drive the ball forward, by stepping in to the shot, with your opposite foot, so if you're right handed, you're going to step into the volley, with your left foot. If you're left handed, you're going to step in to the volley with your right foot. It's counterbalance and it keeps you driving into the ball. When you step forward, you step in towards the net, not towards the side, which is a lot easier to do. You have to work on that footwork, to drive into the court, and drive the ball forward. That was how to hit a forehand volley in tennis. I'm Lincoln Ward. Thank you very much."
