"Hi I'm James with JNC Home Repair and today I'm going to show you how to patch a hole in dry wall. This is just a small piece of dry wall here just to give you an example. Holes that get put in dry wall is a pretty common thing. You can have kids throwing stuff around in the house, you could actually have a door knob go through a hole. You could be moving a piece of furniture and the corner of it get poked through the wall. There is a million different ways how you could get a hole in the wall but basically I am going to show you how to patch it. This particular type of hole, the hole is a little bit bigger to actually use spackling or some kind of plaster repair. You actually want to use some dry wall joint compound and some mesh tape to patch this type of hole. The first thing we are going to do is we are going to apply our mesh tape. You need to cut you a piece that is a little bit bigger than the hole. You don't want a big old long piece, just enough to cover the hole. Once you have applied your dry wall tape, we're going to mix up some mud and we are going to apply joint compound over the tape. The reason you are going to want the tape over this hole is it is going to actually give something to that mud to stick to. If this was your wall right here and you tried to put a bunch of mud into this hole all the mud would just fall through the hole and there is nothing there to keep it, to actually fill the hole that's the hole purpose of the screen of the mesh tape to put there."
