Hi, I'm James with JNC Home Repair. Today I'm going to show you how to unclog your gutters and downspouts. I'm going to show you a small demonstration. This is basically what your gutter- this is just a small section of gutter, there's two ways you can access your gutters. You can either do it from a ladder from the outside, or you can climb up onto your roof, and actually look down on them, and you'll actually look at them like that. Easiest way is just to get a ladder, and you can just kind of move around the house. Basically what happens is, a lot of leaves, and sticks, and debris, and stuff come off the roof, and they fill up the gutter, and it actually clogs up, and it will restrict the water flow coming out, and going out the downspout, which is- This is a typical downspout right here, this is what usually comes off of your gutters, it'll be coming down one of the corners of your house. Somewhere on the section of gutter, you're going to have a downspout. And the water comes out the gutter and it goes down the downspout. Now if you get to the point where you've cleaned your gutters, basically, the easiest thing to do is, actually use just a little broom, just like this, and you can actually just sweep them out, sweep them all the way down to the end, and then you can just scoop all your leaves, and all the debris out, and whatever is left, it will just wash down the downspout. You can also get a water hose, and you can also just squirt out your gutters, and just squirt it all the way down, until you get to the section where your downspout is. Now if you get to the point where water is not draining out of the gutters, your problem is in your downspout. And what you want to do is, it's attached basically to the bottom of your gutters, just like so. They'll be one section of gutter that has a little flange coming off the bottom of it, and it'll actually fit right on top of it, just like so, okay. What you want to do is- usually there's some mounting clips that'll either be holding this to your house, sometimes they'll just be sitting on a little rock or brick or something. Basically, all you want to do is, you want to remove your downspout off of your gutter, remove the downspout extensions, just like so, and all it is is just a hollow piece of sheet metal, okay. And usually what happens is, there's leaves, and sticks that are all on the inside of it, all you want to do is run something down, and maybe a broom handle, something to clear it out. And then all you do is just put your downspout back together, put it back on, click it back on your gutter, and you're good to go.
