"Coach Rudy, Big Ten Alumni. Okay, so you want to play quarterback. All right, good. Couple things you need to know about that. Number one, you are the coach on the field on the offensive side. It's important to know all the plays. It's important to know everyone's position on every play, what their responsibility is, including the line. Of course you need to know the receivers, and the running backs, but more importantly, you need to know the line as well. If anybody is not doing their job, it's your responsibility to tell them what their job is, and to make sure that they're doing it. Now, in order to throw, you want to make sure that you're comfortable developing a style. I've seen a few different. I've played receiver for a long time, and I've caught a lot of different quarterbacks passes. My favorite passes to catch are the ones that if I was playing quarterback I'd want that pass thrown to me. You adopt a style with your fingers in the laces. I've seen this four finger on the tip of the football. A lot of people throw it like that. A lot of people throw it just with the four finger right about the white stripe. And I've seen a lot of people throw the football with the four finger underneath the white stripe. It's up to you to develop a throwing style. Get yourself a rope and a tire, put it on a tree in the backyard, get yourself a football, and try a few different ways of throwing the ball through the tire. All right, once you're able to throw it through the tire, have the tire swing back and forth. Take a couple steps back, and throw the football. Adopt a throwing style that's comfortable for you. If you need to get some coaching, besides what I'm telling you right now, there's a lot of really good guys that can teach you how to throw a football. The most important thing I can tell you is develop your own style."
