"Many investors ask what is the safest investment out there and many people think that a money market fund could possibly be the safest investment available. It depends on your perspective and your knowledge of history. All current and past. Current history is dictating that the American dollar, at which money market funds are based on is becoming worth less and less as inflation becomes worth more and more. Your dollars will in essence become worth less if inflation continues forward. So is that safety? Well not necessarily. You have access to your money but it's becoming worth less and less so you're in fact losing purchasing power. The safest investment since time eternal is gold. When things get tough, inflation gets high gold goes up. If wars come along gold goes up. Gold is universally acceptable in any country in the world. You can walk in to any bank and if you have gold, certifiable gold you have a universal dollar value. So in my view that is the safest investment that is available currently for the investor. This is Patrick Munro talking about is money market funds the safest investment."
