"Shiatsu like acupuncture is an energetic approach to health and wellness in the body. Hi I'm Christina Bjergo. I'm a Licensed Shiatsu Japanese Massage Practitioner and I am going to speak to you a little bit about how to apply pressure when doing Shiatsu. I'm going to use the arm particularly the lung channel to do my demonstration. The lung channel goes from the thumb along the lateral aspect of your arm. When doing Shiatsu you want to be in a relaxed position. Apply pressure perpendicular along the energy channel. You can go at different paces and a different rate depending on what feels comfortable and right. Different people like different depths so go to the depth that is comfortable for you. So one way is like this, that is just applying pressure and moving down. You can also do a light touch with the fingertips and just move them around with the intension of connecting with the energy channel under the skin and clearing it and having a healthy flow of energy there. Finally one other technique when doing self applied Shiatsu is just to do a nice sweeping along the channel. This is actually a practice that is used in China for health and wellness and prevention of colds. And that's it today for a little bit of how to apply acupressure for Shiatsu massage."
