"So, these are some of the types of knitting terms and abbreviations that you might find in a pattern and they'll vary specifically to the pattern you're knitting and what a lot of pattern writers would do is show you this so that they can abbreviate when they write the pattern. So, you can see on the left column, you got C1 for color one. C2 for color two and then you have DEC for decrease, INC for increase. K always means knit. K2 together, excuse me, means knit two stitches together. P for purl, P2 together is purl two stitches together. RS always means right side which means public side the side that is on the front that everyone can see. Slip stitch is SL. SSK means slip, slip, knit. Stitches are always abbreviated ST or ST(s). Wrong side, WS, which is the wrong side the private side, X will mean the number of times they want you to do something. A yarn over is just slipping the yarn over and these are just some of the terms. Now, they'll show you these abbreviations and sometimes, they'll give you an explanation of what it means to knit two together. Sometimes they wouldn't and you'll have to look it up. This is where it would be helpful to have a knitting reference book or you could go on the Internet or you could go to your local yarn store and have them show you."
