"Sock knitting can appear a little intimidating at the beginning because there are a few steps around the hell area that are a little complicated. But I've broken up the parts of the sock in this little test sock into different colors to give you an idea of what's involved. At the top here in purple is a ribbing. You always want to do a ribbing because that will hold your sock up. Then you are going to do the leg. You're going to switch to the leg. And you'll make that as long or as short as you want. There are people that make socks that are just little like tennis socks, or you can have knee socks. After the sock you are going to go into the heel flap, back here in blue. And there are different ways to knit it to reinforce it so that it's more durable. After the heel flap you are going to go into turning the heel, which is this green. And there's your little heel. Then you have to work out the gusset to get back to the stitches required for the measurement of your foot. And that's this white section here. That's decreasing to get to the size of your foot. Then you're going to want to work the length of your foot. Obviously this is a test sock. No ones feet are like this. And in the end you are going to be working the blue portion which is shaping your toe."
