"When you're picking up for the button band, you don't have any live stitches to work from, so you're going to be picking it up from the side edge of one of your fronts. Now, the pattern tells me I need to pick up five stitches in the ribbing and twenty seven stitches evenly spaced along here. So, one thing you can do if you didn't have the stripes to give you guidance, is to fold that in half, and put a marker, and then you know you'd have fourteen and fourteen, and if you fold this in half, and put a marker, you can have yourself a gauge, you know you need seven and seven, and then later on we'll put in another marker there. So, I'm going to go into the bottom of my ribbing, and I'm going to take my yarn, and I'm going to bring it through that first stitch, right there. And, I need to fit five stitches evenly. I know it's hard to see, but you're going to go in and basically your knitting as you're picking up, and I'm getting my five stitches in the ribbing. Now, my contrast is going to run along here so I need seven stitches, so let's see, I have two, four, six, eight, ten rows to fit seven stitches in, so I'm not going to be putting two stitches exactly. Some of it's intuitive, I'm not going to want to go into that hole there. So, I'm going to go over here, there's one, two, three, four, five, six, and now I've got my seven stitches that have begun my right front edge."
