"Once you've got your gauge you're ready to begin casting on for your garment. For todays example, I'm going to be working on the sleeve. The sleeve cast-on needs 21 stitches. So, I'm going to estimate with the long-tail cast-on approximately an inch or so a stitch. So, I know that that's probably about 20 inches and that's where I'm going to put my slip knot. So, I'm going to go around, make my slip knot by wrapping it around my fingers, and pulling the loop through. I'm going to put that slip knot on the needle on the right hand and I'm going the yarn. Separate the yarn like it's curtains. Bring it down so I've got two loops, one at the thumb and one at the fore finger. And, I'm going to go from the outside of the thumb loop, inside the fore finger loop, and right back down the thumb loop. Then, tighten it and bring it down again. So, you'll see that upside down A, you'll know you're in position. Going to go through the thumb loop, the fore finger loop, and right back through the thumb. I've got three stitches so far only eighteen more to go. I'm going to keep doing that, I want to keep my tension even so it's not too tight. My stitches slide smoothly because otherwise it's going to be too hard to get into my first row."
