"In addition to all the different needle sizes there are notions that you need for what you are going to be doing, just little tools of the trade. You don't need all of them when you start out but as you go on and learn more challenging patterns you will add more things to your kit. I like to keep mine in this little container. It is kind of a tackle box. I actually have a little smaller one for my purse so I am never home without my tools. Some people keep it in little bags like this. So there are a lot of different notions here in no particular order. These are point protectors and point protectors do exactly what they sound like, they go on the end of the needle so when you are done knitting and you put your needles in your bag you put this tip on it and it keeps your stitches from falling off your needle. Those come in different sizes to match your different needles so there are small ones as well and they do the same thing. Sometimes you will be doing patterns that need you to count your rows so there are all kinds of little row counters. These row counters you just adjust with a dial. Those go on straight needles and these go on circular needles and that way you can count your rows if your pattern requires you to know what row you are on. If you learn to do cables, you are going to need cable needles. Cable needles come in different shapes and sizes. You can have bamboo or birch cable needles. These have a little dent in the middle to hold your stitches. They always come in a pack of three so you have small, medium, and large for different weight yarns."
