"Just like knitting, crochet will call first watch when making a garment. And you have to chain enough to create a reasonable swatch, a 4 inch swatch and you'll chain across, and whatever stitch the pattern is. And when you've reached the desired length of your swatch, we'll pretend we're getting to 4 inches, you would measure your swatch. So for this I'm doing single crochet and we've measured the center 2 inches of the crocheted swatch. So we'll pretend this thing is a 4 by 4 swatch. Alright and pull your loop out so that it doesn't come out, lay your swatch down and you would measure your single crochet within the 2 inches. So you have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 single crochet or 3 and a half crocheted stitches to the inch."
