"It's important, also, to show your cats new things. Cats are what's known as observational learners, so they watch you or other cats and they learn from watching. That's why many cats are really good at opening the cupboard door to get in at the cat treats, because they watch how you open it and they go up there and they imitate your motions and pull that door open. Same thing with door knobs, they'll learn how to use latches and door knobs by watching people. So show them some good stuff too. You can put little treats in this, again, this empty paper towel holder, and show them that they can fish their paw in there and get treats out. So you can put a little canned food or something in there, or a little catnip mouse, and they'll learn to dig it out. With this sort of a toy that has the rolling ball in it, if you give it to them you want to show them how to work it. So you stick your finger in there and move the ball back and forth and they'll get the idea. You can see that Tippy's already interested in it. And they'll learn how to use it by being shown. So it's a great idea to show your cats new things so that they can have more excitement in their life."
