"Once you've brought your cat to the veterinarian and have determined that the inappropriate urination is not due to a medical problem, there are other causes that we should investigate. One of them is stress or anxiety in the household. The stress and anxiety could be caused by other cats that are outside, interactions with other cats, or it may be due to the fact that the cat just isn't happy in it's home. So I've done a series on environmental enrichment in cats which includes things like providing adequate scratching areas for your cats, making sure there's plenty of toys and things for your cats to do, and also providing a lot of human interaction and play with your cat. That will help him to feel happier in his environment and less likely to feel anxious or stressed. Another thing that you can do if your cat is anxious, especially about other cats in the household, is to use a pheromone spray or diffuser. Now a pheromone is a chemical that the cats can smell but you can't, and this particular pheromone helps them to calm themselves. So this is a spray that you can spray into the air in the area where your anxious cat might urinate. Or you can also use a diffuser. This actually plugs into an electrical outlet, and then this diffuser spray goes into the air and helps to provide a calming chemical in the air for your cat to feel less anxious."
