Yet another of the Connecticut giants was the Waterbury Clock Company. Unlike some of the others there were no early predecessors to this company. It was formed in the mid 1800's by businessmen who wanted to get involved in and cash in on the rapidly growing clock industry. The history of the company you can find in the Tran Dooley book related to this subject. I also have this more recent book about the Timex Company because I am sure virtually all of you remember Timex watches. They are still being made now but the Timex Company was based in Waterbury and really grew out of the Waterbury Clock Company itself. I was surprised when I was looking around for clocks to show in these series that for some reason right now I have no Waterbury Clock around but I could have stood an Ogee Clock, a black mantle clock a steeple clock, a gingerbread clock here made by Waterbury and you wouldn't know it wasn't made by one of the other companies as well. They basically, they were in the game and they made what everybody else made and tried to be price and quality competitive.
