"If you're bottle feeding your baby, you can gain a lot of the emotional bond, as with breast feeding. Just by mimicking some of the natural physical movements. Hi! My name is Erin Sheppard with Austin Baby. And I'm going to talk about bottle feeding your baby. Once you have properly prepared the formula. You want to make sure that it is not too hot. And the easiest way to that, is to express a little bit on to the wrist. And if it's too hot for skin, right there. Then it's too hot for baby. Once your bottle of formula is ready. Then you will hold the baby, so that baby can see you at eye level. That's eight to twelve inches from your eyes. And if you hold them at the natural breast line, they will feel your heart beat. And be at the warmest part of your body, which is where they really like to be. Make sure you have handy, a cloth diaper. You can use for a burp cloth. It's very absorbent and very handy. And we'll take the bottle. And if you touch the cheek. That will stimulate the baby's rooting reflex. Which will help them open their mouth, naturally. And you will point the top of the nipple, towards the top of the mouth. So it should be at an angle. And once it gets to the top of their mouth, they'll latch on. And you want to make sure that they're getting as much as the nipple, as can comfortably fit into the mouth. Once you've established a good latch. And you can tell that there's a good flow with the nipple. Then you're set for that feeding. A few things you can do, to really establish that natural bond during the feeding session. Is to make sure you have eye contact with your baby, the majority of the time. You speak with baby very softly. And in a lovingly voice. So that they know that this is a time for you and her to share. When baby seems to be finished then apply your handy burp cloth. And you can burp baby high on your shoulder. Or you can lean baby over. And this is where that burp cloth comes in so handy. Because if any spit up comes up, then it will land, right on that burp cloth. So go ahead and burp baby. And go ahead and offer some more. Thank you very much and have fun feeding your baby. I'm Erin Sheppard with Austin Baby."
