"Jason: OK, now we're going to talk about transitioning from the East Coast closed position basic, into side by side Charleston. The key, as we mentioned at the end of the last clip, is to do so with a rotating East Coast basic. OK? So it'll look like this, triple step, triple step, rock step, triple step, triple step, rock step, kick step, kick hitch, kick step, rock step, kick, kick hitch, kick. OK? The key is that rotation. OK? So what I'm really thinking about doing is spinning around that East Coast basic and then after the first triple step of that basic, releasing the hand connection here and allowing Tara to open up. The reason why it's helpful to have rotation is that Tara's momentum is going in this direction anyway, so just release and allow her to continue is quite natural. Tara: Yeah, so as a follower, I need to continue whatever direction I've been given until I'm given something new. So when Jason starts the rotation I now have all that rotational momentum. I'm going to continue doing that until he gives me a different lead. The only thing that he's doing as he said is dropping that connection and opening up his arms, so that's not a different lead, that's just allowing me to follow through on that momentum and so I do. Jason: OK? So let's show it from another angle, starting here, triple step, triple step, rock step, triple step, triple step, rock step, kick, kick hitch, kick, rock step, kick, kick hitch, kick. Tara: So one of the other things that you might have noticed that happens, since we have a different type of connection in East Coast, since Jason's hand is up at my back and we have more of a gap between us so that we're not stepping on each other, once we rotate out and get into our side by side, we now have this big gap and a strange hand connection. So during that first basic, Jason cinches up the connection and slides his hand back down to my side. So just to see it one more time so you're looking for that part. Jason: Triple step, triple step, rock step, triple step, triple step, open, then here at any point I can just step a little closer to her and close up that gap. OK? That's the transition from closed position, East Coast basic, into side by side Charleston."
