Video Transcript

"Hi, my name's Les Whitley, today to talk to you about stretching out the muscles of the quadricep, or the upper thigh. Most of the quadricep are a complex series of muscles that are responsible for not only moving the knee up, but also extending the lower leg. To stretch these muscles, start by having a good upright posture; using some sort of object to stabilize your upper body, such as a wall, doorframe, or post. Reach back by grabbing the upper part of the foot, lower part of the shin; keeping both knees side by side directly beneath one another, with your knee pointing straight to the ground. Body up, nice and tall; reach back, pull that ankle in till you feel tightness in the front part of the thigh; holding this stretch anywhere from fifteen to thirty seconds. Release the stretch and repeat on both sides. Warming up the muscle is an incredibly important part before you begin stretching, to allow that muscle to stretch more completely without chance of injury. When you're stretching the muscle you're asking it to actually relax, so the more important of the warm-up you actually ease into the flexibility component by increasing blood flow, range of motion of the joint for your movement to increase."
