"Hi, I'm Les Whitley, today to talk about training muscles of the triceps, primarily responsible for elbow and extension of the elbow. In training muscle of the tricep, the important thing is to remember to take your time because it is a smaller muscle and it can get stress quite easily especially when dealing with muscles that are responsible for moving around the elbow joint as it is the smaller supporting joint of the body. One of the most effective things that we found in training the triceps is the body weight dip. Begin this exercise, even using a support box beneath, if you can't manage your own body weight through space. Any time you have the opportunity to train a muscle group, moving the body through space, you're improving not only the strength of that muscle but also the nervous system connections and your athleticism overall, with balance, coordination and flexibility. Beginning this exercise in the up position by extending your body, arms completely straight, spine in a neutral position, begin by lowering, bending at the elbow as far down as you feel comfortable and extending up. Control the body down and up into that lock position. Use your full range of motion as your flexibility will allow while you're managing and improving your strength. This will not only train muscles of the tricep, but also muscle of the shoulder and chest as well. The abdominals come into play for stabilization so you're getting a lot out of this exercise while emphasizing just specifically the triceps. Anytime you can incorporate a multi-joint movement such as the body weight dip, you're going to get bank for the buck."
