"Hi, I'm Les Whitley. I'd like to talk to you about making exercise a habit. In making anything a habit it takes time, effort, and commitment. Exercise especially with the population, the way we are trending towards the levels of obesity continuing to be on the rise, we are finding more and more that it is becoming less and less of a habit. It is less and less a part of our active everyday lifestyle and we're talking about exercise. From children through adolescents all the way up to teenage, the early adulthood into full grown adult and even into retirement age. We are spending less and less time in becoming active. The most important thing in finding a way to make exercise part of your regular routine is finding something you enjoy doing and doing it as often as you possibly can. If you enjoy the outdoors, spend more time outdoors whether it is hiking, biking, swimming, boating, do something and be active and do it often. If you don't like the outdoors don't commit to an exercise that is going to put you outdoors. If you enjoy being indoor in a climate controlled environment then commit to a gym or purchase equipment on your own. Establish your goals for a lifelong commitment, not just to reach something particular, say 30 days out but how can you maintain this level of activity for the rest of your life. Make it part of your regular routine, just as simple as putting on your shoes or getting dressed in the morning. Exercise should be a component of your daily life. Whether it is in the morning, in the mid-day or in the afternoon or in the evening, set time, keep to that schedule and find something you enjoy and do it as often as you possibly can."
