"Hi my name is Les Whitley, today I'd like to talk to you about exercise that's very excellent when it comes to training the muscles of the lower body. But doing it properly will help you avoid any kind of injury such as those of the knee. The lunge without hurting your knee can mean incredible components to add to your normal training routines. In doing the lunge specifically focusing on warming up the body first. Proper movement, proper technique to avoid that injury. Lunge can be done in a variety of different ways, this typical step out lunge, push back to a standing position. The traveling lunge, where you are actually moving through space. Then there's also the step back lunge where the leg steps behind the body. The emphasize on this for knee protection is to not allow the knee to extend beyond the range of motion that you feel comfortable. This is going to be limited by your flexibility. If you are fairly flexible through a full range of motion, go ahead and try to step out and extend as far as you possibly can. Again emphasizing keeping under a good control range of motion that you feel comfortable with. Not pushing too far but not far enough that you're not stimulating that muscle for growth in order to get stronger."
