"Learning how to putt is a very difficult thing to do in golf, but it's also very important. After hitting your ball onto the green, you need to learn how to reed a putt. I'm Jared Garbett with Echo Farms Country Club, and I'm going to teach you how to read a putt today. See I've hit my ball onto the green, approximately twelve feet from the cup. I want to stand behind my ball, in line with the cup. I'm going to kneel down, and look at the way the grain of the grass is on the green. The grain is moving toward my left, and the hole slopes away from me. So this means that my ball is going to travel faster as it nears the hole. The elevation change moves to the right just a little bit, so my ball is not only going to be fast, but it's going to turn to the right. After reading my putt, I need to check it by actually putting. Now you don't get a chance to practice this while you're out playing, but it's very important that you practice it while on the practice putting green before your round. I'm going to read my putt, step address the ball--if you read it correctly, it goes in the hole every single time. That's how you read a putt."
