Mesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelial cells. These are cells that are found primarily in the pleura, the covering of the lungs, the peritoneum, the covering of the abdomen, and which through various mechanisms become cancerous and grow. And what that leads to is an ever enlarging rind or peel of cancerous mesothelioma cell around the lung, eventually constricting the lung or constricting the abdomen. Much less commonly one can develop mesothelioma around the paricardium, that is the covering of the heart. And on rare occasions there are a few cases described of mesothelioma a developing in the testicle.
