Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we are going to talk about how to grow grass under oak trees. Now we all dream of a beautiful lawn lush and green under the trees so we can sit on a warm summer's day and enjoy the sun. But there's always some challenges when you grow under trees but there are some solutions as well. Let's talk about them. First of all I've found if weeds will grow, grass will grow. So generally under oak trees it's not such a dense canopy, there's usually some light coming through. And because all the leaves fall off of the trees, there's actually sun that comes down and will, the grass will get sun from half of the year. So you can till grow grass under there. But the trick would be is to make sure and water it when the leaves are over the grass. So the main reason you are not, the grass isn't doing well under the oak tree is probably because it's not getting any water. Cause you are watering everything else in your yard but when it rains you quit watering. So you forget about the areas of your yard in the spring and the fall that aren't getting any water. So you actually need to water your grass in the spring and the fall. Or you might lose it. And so there's easy ways to grow under oak trees, just make sure to have good soil so add two, three, four inches of good compost or even potting soil over whatever you have right now and in the late spring or early fall when the nights are still warm and the days are warm, water as much as you can and then put a bunch of grass seed down. So thickly lay out perennial grass seed that will grow in your area and water it intensely for at least two to three hours at a time a couple of times a week. And you will find that even under an oak tree you can have a beautiful lawn.
