Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Rachael Richardson with Nutralution in South Beach, Florida. In this clip we're going to talk about what is a low carb diet. So first let's start by defining what carbohydrates are. Carbohydrates are basically, and we say carbohydrates and we refer to them as carbs. Carbohydrates are anything that contains glucose or sugar. And so if you look at the food guide pyramid, it's everything from the sweets at the top of the pyramid down to dairy contains carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables both contain carbohydrates as well as that whole bottom rung of foods which include things like bread, pasta, cereal, rice, potatoes, all of those things are carbohydrates. So when you look at restricting your carbohydrates what you really really want to focus on are getting your carbohydrates from your fruits and your vegetables and focusing on lower carbohydrate fruit like things like papaya is a lower carb fruit, apples are a medium carbohydrate. Things that are higher are fruits like banana and dry fruit. Other low carb foods are things like your nuts and your asparagus. This has been Rachael with Nutralution in South Beach, Florida."
