"Tom Boyer, Chalk Creek Boers, talking about showing 4-H show whithers. The 4-H show program is designed for our young people, to have an opportunity to take a goat, feed it, prepare it for show, and take it to a show in a competitive situation, and have an opportunity to compete with other young people. The animals are evaluated both on the quality of the animal itself, then in separate classes they're also evaluated on how well the young person is able to show that animal and exhibit it. Called showmanship. Key points to remember in preparing your goat for that experience is; one, always use a chain. Don't use a collar. They will learn to respect the chain much quicker and respond to it much quicker that they ever will a collar. Other things to include is using the right handle, or, you don't maybe not want to use a handle at all, but you could, in some cases, just use a snap. Like this, across the top, that you can hold your animal with. Whatever your young person is most comfortable with. Prepare the goat and the young person by experience and training in getting them used to those things for show."
