"Tom Boyer, Chalk Creek Boers talking about goat facilities. Some important things to keep in mind with goat facilities are, number one make sure there is adequate fresh air. We tend to kill a lot of our goats with kindness by putting them into enclosed barns, and sheds where there is little air. And they will get pneumonia much quicker than most all of the other species. So you have to be cautious about doing so. Try to keep them in open sided sheds where there is a lot of fresh air flowing around them. And in a lot of cases depending on where you live in the country, you may just want to have a roof only over them. So there' is total fresh air underneath, and all you're doing is protecting them from storms and the heat of the sun. Other things to include in your planning are the types of panels you're going to use. By using panels with the vertical rods as opposed to horizontal rods, if they happen to jump there's significant less chance for them to hook a leg and break it. And so that's one of the things that we've discovered is by using these kids of rods we can reduce losses."
