Hi I'm Tim Gipson and I'm going to talk to you about how to remove silicon caulking. Now silicone caulking you usually use this around tub and shower and laboratory, so in our bathrooms. And even in our kitchens. But around wet areas is where you are going to find a lot of your silicone caulking. And one thing about silicone caulking is that when repainting, the paint will not adhere to the silicone caulking very well. So it needs to be removed so you can paint and then come back and caulk over the paint to seal up your joints. Now the rule with silicone caulking is it's really useful to have a tool such as this. This is a caulking removal tool, a fairly inexpensive tool that you can pick up at just about any home improvement store or a hardware store. So to remove this, what I will do is it's got a pointed area and angled where it sits down right into the bevel between the wall and your tub fixture and what you want to do is you just want to get it started and you want to use just even quick and steady strokes to start loosening the caulking up. And this particular one if you need to you can control a little bit better since it goes both ways you can actually pull it towards you. And what you want to do is we want to make sure that we get any loose or old caulking or any caulking that's up on the wall, we want to get this completely off the wall. So that you can come back and paint and get good adhesion on your paint. Now one thing to be careful about when we start scraping is that you don't want to dig into your wall board area here. Ok so you want to just try and keep your scraping and pull that caulking out and work it out without damaging your wall. So I'm Tim Gipson and that's how to remove silicone caulking.
