Hi, my name is Lincoln Ward. I'm a USPTA Certified Tennis Pro as well as the director of the Austin Tennis Center here in Austin, Texas. Today we're going to talk about how to hit a tennis ball. A tennis ball is a pressurized ball that has a nice bounce. When... to hit the ball is not incredibly difficult, hitting well and hitting it accurately is a little more technical. The basics of hitting the ball... as the ball bounces and comes up, you want to move into the range of the ball with your tennis racket connecting the ball to the center of your strings. When you make contact with the ball make sure you're looking directly at the ball with your racket so again you can hit the sweet spot of your tennis racket. The further away from the sweet spot you make contact, the less power and less control you're going to get. Basically, when that ball bounces and comes back up, again, you're going to take your racket back, go up to contact point, usually over your front foot, the ball will come up to your racket. You're going to collide the ball compresses on your strings as you follow through sending the ball off of your strings rocketing across the court. The main important part, the most important part, is driving through the tennis ball, it's... you don't want to rush to get to the finish line. Keep the ball on your strings as long as possible, it'll compress on the strings and create more of an explosive shot right across the court. That's how to hit a tennis ball. Thank you.
