"Hi, this is Laura Turner and today I'm going to talk with you about learning how to read and write for children. A good way to start your child on reading and writing is to actually implement it into everyday activities in your home. So for example you're walking around the house and you're walking with your child and you have this little dog and you say to your child, what is this? The child says it's a dog. Then you go even further, you say how do you spell dog? The child says d-o-g. Right. And then if you have a piece of paper handy, you can say and how do we write dog? They can write it. And then you have dog, okay. So think about you can make your house into a learning environment, flowers, dog, lamp, right. Mom, dad. Think about you can play these games with your children because the way that children learn is primarily through doing and experiencing and playing games. So really make the child have fun with it. And also of course make reading fun. When you read to them. Have the child help you read the books that you're reading to them. And then have the child read to you when you get more advanced and write for you. Giving them assignments outside of school you know, that are going to be fun for them to do with you so you can not only make this into a learning activity but also a parenting activity and a togetherness kind of deal. And really be persistent and don't give up if your child is struggling. Look into tutoring for your child if they are really having trouble learning how to read and write. But other than that if you really start making it a part of their everyday life, they're going to learn it much faster and it's going to stay with them forever. So those are some tips on learning how to read and write for children."
