Hi, this is Laura Turner, and today we're going to talk about how to teach check writing. First of all, of course, you're going to want to use fake checks, not real checks, so you don't waste all of your checks teaching your child how to write them. And the way to do that is quite simple. You can go online and find fake checks...images of fake checks that you can use. First you're going to wanna, of course, introduce the format of the check. So show the check itself to your child. You know, totally blank. And then you're going to want to introduce them to where they put the date, okay, and, of course, how to do that. And for children, learning things like this, you know, is going to be sort of a...they've learned it once, they can do it again kind of thing. So if you tell them, you know, you'll put the date up here. And this is how you format the date, and then you can have them do it...you can have them practice it. And you can actually instigate scenarios in which you sort of sell things to your child that they're going to buy off of you. They're going to add up...you're going to add up how much these things cost, and then they can sort of have the experience of using a check without really using it. So get the date nailed down. Get the...the amount of the purchase nailed down, so, of course, in the right hand corner and then written all the way out. And, of course, the 'paid to', if they're making a check out to the grocery store, for example. Then, also tell them about the memo, where they're going to write their account number if they have a bill, all right, to pay. Or they're going to write, you know, what they...what they used the money for. Groceries for October, all right. And then, of course, always remind them to sign their check. And remind them that everything that they've done before is totally negated if they do not sign it in the little right corner of the check. Okay? So practice makes perfect. And go over every point of the check with them, and, those were ways to teach check writing to your children.
