"Hello, I'm Sarah Norris with Total Childcare Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, and today we're going to talk about the attributes of a childcare center or daycare services. Statistics have shown that children who attend good quality daycare or childcare, based on developmentally appropriate activities do better in school overall with their whole educational experience, than children who have not attended early-childhood learning centers. Those statistics don't lie; they're very, very true. It is true that because of being placed in group care, children learn academics, they learn the 1, 2, 3s, they learn shapes, numbers, letters, sizes -- all of those beginning concepts for later educational development. Without those pre-concepts, they cannot really understand what a 1 is, and they will not be able to add or subtract. So the cognitive intellectual development within daycare centers is very important. It is also a good learning tool, good learning place for children in learning social skills and how to live in our world. No one really can live in a bubble very well, we have to live with each other and so learning early within an appropriate childcare setting, to interact with others, to be able to take turns, to be able to listen, to be able to have empathy for one another, to be able to cooperate -- those important social skills that young children learn within childcare centers. Many, many families in America work today, as well as other countries, and therefore they need good quality childcare for their children to attend while they're at work. So there is a need, and an important need, for good quality childcare within our world, and it does help children to be able to adjust better to the world. It helps them to develop their cognitive skills probably earlier and faster, and at a more developmentally appropriate place than they would if they were at home or not in a group setting. So today we've talked about what are the good points and the good qualities of being in good childcare, and these things that help the child in their development, their overall development. A good quality daycare will address cognitive, it will address physical, it will help them with their motor skills, it will help them socially and it will help them in life overall."
