"Hello, I'm Sarah Norris with Total ChildCare in Wilmington, N.C. and today we're talking about governing boards for daycare centers. All childcare centers and facilities may or may not have governing boards but some do. Particularly in non-profit organizations you will often find a board that helps with the administration of the program, they help with budgets, they help with fund-raising, they give guidance to the administrators you also may have that in church and religious sponsored organizations where a board will sit and discuss budget issues, will help the administrator and making decisions related to equipment and maybe in numbers of teachers to hire or types of teachers or they may even help in the selection of the administrator so often in your religious groups you may have that also. Other corporate daycares probably childcare centers will have boards that will help them in making decisions and often in all of these the boards may report back to the particular business if we're talking about a corporate center they may report back to the personnel people or back to the financial people about what is happening that's pertinent to that particular area. So governing boards can be a good resource some regular centers may use boards that just for helping them with special projects; such as fundraising or with particular needs within the classroom. Boards can be a source that you can utilize to help you to make decisions to help you with funding, to help you with selling your business perhaps, to the public at large. Governing boards do have a place they're not necessarily something that occurs in all childcare facilities but they do in some and can be helpful."
