"Hello I'm Sarah Norris with Total Childcare in Wilmington, North Carolina. And today we are talking about daycare jobs for teens. Childcare centers and the family homes often use teenagers as employees. In North Carolina you must be sixteen to be able to work in a childcare center. And until you are eighteen you are not to be left alone with any group of children at any time other then nap time. You must be under the direction of a lead teacher at all times if you are under sixteen. However you may volunteer when you are fifteen or less. And many centers except volunteers to work in the center, to learn about children, to get experience, to be extra hands for activities in which you need extra staff. Often your high school students may have courses that will come over and volunteer within your center, to help meet requirements for particular courses and this is also helpful to them as well as the childcare center. It can be a good relationship to work with, we do this here in our center and it works very, very well. We feel like we give good training to the teenagers, they leave us with some knowledge of children and how to deal with children and some of them enter the childcare field at a later date. It's important that we try to help our young be trained and to also help them understand what it takes to have a career in childcare and that it is a profession. And that we are doing an important work with in our world. So today we talked a little bit about jobs for teenagers. They are available in childcare in most areas and if you are a teenager looking for a job, I would recommend you put in an application and talk with your director and explain why you would like to work at her particular facility."
