"Hello I'm Sarah Norris in Wilmington, North Carolina with total childcare center and today we are talking about qualifications for childcare teacher. Qualifications for a teacher in childcare can vary from state to state. You need to check with your particular state to see what is required and probably what the terminology of the position is, in North Carolina we have several categories. They are called lead teacher, teacher, assistant teacher or aide. And within each of those categories are specific requirements for each and you would need to look at that and see what requirements there are in each classroom you need to have a lead teacher. And you may have a teacher or an assistant teacher or an aide helping her depending on your, the numbers of children you have an the staff child ratio that's required. Some states probably are going to differ from this but as I said you need to check with your local state or your local governing agency to see what is required and what the staffing qualifications are. You need to make your staff aware of what these qualifications are, you need to know this when you are hiring for a particular position, what the qualifications are and if that person meets that particular qualification for that classroom teacher. So today we've talked a little bit about qualifications for childcare. Also in North Carolina there's a new system that's coming in, in which we will now have levels of teachers which is going to be helpful in identifying where a particular teacher is on her professional development level as well as for parents to know exactly what the qualifications are of the teacher. In thinking about qualifications you need more then babysitting you must have a lot of requirements now, much more so then we used to have for teachers and you need to be aware of what is pertinent for your particular state."
