"Hello, I'm Sarah Norris with Total ChildCare Center in Wilmington, N.C. and today we're talking about daycare teacher requirements. These are going to vary according to the area in which you live, the state in which you live so you would need to check with your local state agencies to see what those particular requirements are. In North Carolina there are different requirements for different terms for teachers; lead teacher, assistant teacher, teacher, and aide. They all have different requirements so you would have to look at that and see. Everyone that is a teacher needs to have a at least have a high school diploma in addition they're numbers of hours of training that may be required. There are also levels depending upon your education and your experience; the number of years that you've actually worked in a childcare center or in a childcare facility. Teacher's need to be aware that they are professionals and these requirements are necessary because we need to present ourselves in a professional way and we need to teach children that we are professionals. We are not babysitters, therefore that is why there are requirements out there for teachers and they are becoming more involved and they're becoming more stringent and I think that probably is a good thing but keep that in mind as you're thinking about becoming a teacher or an assistant in a childcare setting."
