Now athletic massage is really not the true technical name for it, it's called sports massage. And sports massage is a specialize form of massage therapy focus for athletes. And there are usually three different types of situation in which athletes get a massage. Now the first one is in between training. Now one of the most important factors and reasons why athletes get sports massage in between training is because it helps clean their muscles out. It helps clean all that lactic acid and all those by products of cell metabolism right out of the tissues. When you have that lactic acid build up, you're muscles get sore. So reducing muscle recovery time, increasing mobility and muscle strength and flexibility is, are very, very important reasons for getting a massage during training. Now the second reason to get a massage is pre-event. Now a massage therapist really need to get their clients ready to perform at their peak. They need to wake him up. They need to wake their minds up. They need to wake their, their abilities up. They need to wake their muscles up, their nerves up. They really need to do brisk movements, real fast movements. The whole purpose behind a pre-event massage is to wake that athlete up. Now the third situation which athletes get massage is post-event and this is actually completely different than pre-event. Of course you are gearing down, you are slowing that heart rate. You are opening up that body. You're cleaning out all those muscles of all those toxins that accumulated during that high energy performance.
