"So what are some math teaching aids? Hi, I'm Jimmy Chang and I've been teaching college math for nearly a decade. And we're here to talk about some math teaching aids that are really designed to help you teach math better. In addition to your voice and your typical chalk board. Now there's, the more you can involve the students visually or interactively, the better. One really nice way of doing that would be using things such as coins or even some Legos. To have them do various scenarios where they could use their hands to separate things. Combine like terms, separate the different terms etc. But getting students involved from an interactive stand point. Starting from the lower grades and working their way up. Is a fantastic idea. The more involved they get, the better that they'll be able to learn. Now other teaching aids include the use of the following. First, use different colored markers. If you use markers of the same color. What tends to happen is that the different steps that you work out. In terms of the solutions. They all tend to be bunched in together. But if you use different colors, to indicate different steps. From a visual perspective, the students can see things a little bit more clearly and between. Students tend to be visual learners. So if you end up using math drawing programs such as using computers to see them, give them the picture. Or if you have a graphing calculator, whether it be a TI-83, a Casio. And you draw the picture with them or have them do it with you. They'll be able to more clearly see the solutions that will pop up. Power Point slides is a very time saving toll. And that let's you either, A, write the solutions ahead of time. So that they can read what you have to work with. While you spend the time explaining how you get the answer. Or you could use Power Point slides to write the different formulas down. So it saves your time on having to write them in class. When you could use that additional class time to talk about the formulas in more detail. And last but not least, another method that you can use. Is the use of television and movies. We're talking about programs such as Sesame Street, 3 2 1 Contact. But also movies such as Wizard of Oz, Goodwill Hunting and Die Hard With A Vengeance. Yes, Die Hard With A Vengeance uses mathematics. Just watch the movie and see how they use math. So I'm Jimmy Chang and this has been some math teaching aids for you."
