"Hi, I'm Judy Carrier with Jewels by Park Lane, and I'm going to talk to you about selling handmade jewelry at jewelry parties. Now first of all, to do this you have to be extremely creative in designing jewelry, because if you're going to sell handmade jewelry it has to be unique. You have to have something different. That's what's going to bring people to your parties. One of the easiest ways of doing that first of all is starting out, go to a craft or hobby store so you get an idea of pricing. Check out catalogs so you know if something is similar to what you're making. What it goes for. You can probably charge a little more because yours will be one of a kind, and that's my second piece of advice. Never make more than one of a kind unless it specifically requests it by a customer. Now at a home party what you're going to do is invite some people over, start out with family and friends, and give the hostess a little incentive to do this for you. For instance she could get a discount on her favorite piece or you could give her an extra piece, for instance if she got a necklace that she purchased, make some earrings to go with them, you know, for her. The other thing you might want to do is when you're displaying your jewelry, make sure that you have packaging, because of the things that's different about selling homemade jewelry at a party is that it's going to go home with a customer that night. So you have to have a cute little box or gift bag to send it home. And I would suggest putting a thank you note and maybe a business card in there, or even a brochure or picture of some other pieces you've made. That way you'll create interest for a return purchase. And the whole idea is to have repeat customers, but again, they want it to be different, so not only do you have to create the jewelry, you have to market it in a little bit different way too. You're going to have to go the extra mile, but that's why you'll get the big bucks. I'm Judy Carrier with Jewels by Park Lane, and that's how you sell handmade jewelry at a home party."
