"Hi, I'm Sundae with Natural Sundae. And if you've ever wondered about the history of lomi lomi massage, I'm here to tell you now. Now, lomi lomi massage was a type of massage that was brought by the earliest Polynesian settlers to the continent of Hawaii, and it evolved over hundreds and hundreds of years across the continent. Children...maybe people from children to chief practiced lomi lomi massage, therefore, when such a large variety of people practice it, many different schools of thought and techniques sort of developed over time. Well, in 1820 when Christian settlers came over to convert the kingdom of Hawaii to Christianity, lomi lomi massage was seen as sort of a heathen practice and was sort of outlawed. So lomi lomi massage went underground. Now, in the 1940s, the Board of Health tried to sort of regulate lomi lomi massage and bring it out in the open again by making these native healers that have practiced it for hundreds of years take written tests and so forth on anatomy and physiology. And a lot of them refused, partly on the basis that, I believe, some of them were not writers and readers. So they sort of rebelled against this theory and, again, it went underground. Well, in 2001, legislator was finally passed, making lomi lomi massage a very viable and legal part of the therapy that's available in Hawaii. So that's just a very short, brief history of the lomi lomi massage. The Polynesian settlers brought it over hundreds of years ago. It was practiced all across the country.
