Let's talk about how to potty train a puppy. This can be very frustrating because there's a lot involved with this. Puppies are not inherently going to choose where they are going to defecate and urinate they're going to go wherever they feel like it generally. You can have sometimes a puppy that is old that has been an outside dog, let's say, and now is rescued, and has no idea, you know, what house training is, or potty training is. And so, the first thing to generally establish is inside of the house if they are going, somewhere where it's okay. And one way of doing that is using wet pads or pee-pee pads. And what you can do is if they defecate or urinate you can soak a little bit of that in these and then put this in a location and that scent will draw them to it. And you can usually get them to potty train in those areas. At some point, what you want to do is remove that, or move this to the outside and so they start associating with urination and defecation outside. To potty train a puppy typically means that you're trying to get them to them to be house broken, and go outside. So always take a little treat, not a big treat, but a small one and when they're in the act of defecating and urinating, you want to praise them and as soon as they're done is treat them because food is a high motivator for these guys and that will potty train them much faster when you're trying to get them to go outside.
